Lenten A.M. & P.M. Retreat Series

Lenten Morning/Evening Retreat Series At Immaculata 2009

We all know that taking time for a Lenten Retreat is really difficult to do and at times expensive. So why not take your time and prayerfully make the retreat one day a week, a week at a time here at Immaculata?

A retreat is a special time to be with the Lord in quiet and solitude, allowing the Lord to speak to your listening heart. Our Lenten Retreat will provide reflections from the Gospel readings of the Holy Week Triduum looking in particular to “The Passion of Christ”, and “The Cross of Christ”.

The retreat reflections will be given by Fr. Ron Rolheiser, OMI, a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate - a specialist in the fields of spirituality and systematic theology. His weekly column appears in Catholic newspapers around the world. He is the author of The Holy Longing and many other prize-winning spirituality books.

The presentations will be given using our XGA/DLP ceiling/wall DVD projection of the actual retreat talks taped before a live audience at another Oblate Retreat House.

Facilitator and guide for these retreat sessions will be Fr. Salvador Gonzalez, OMI, also a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate and on staff at Immaculata.

Our sessions will be on 4 Wednesdays: March 04, 11, 18, April 08 (Wednesday of Holy Week). Two sessions per day: 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. & 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. The same program will be repeated each morning and evening.

A free will donation will be asked for every session attended.

Session 1. March 04, 2009
The passion of Christ refers to Jesus’ passivity, not to his physical suffering and death. After a life of activity, now Jesus is passive and things are done to him. In what way does this change or deepen my understanding of Jesus and his passion?

Session 2. March 11, 2009
In the Agony in the Garden, Jesus was “a stone’s throw away” from his disciples, yet he was experiencing that loneliness in which the deepest part of us is alone. What in my life helps me to understand him in this experience?

Session 3. March 18, 2009
If we understand the brokenness of Jesus on the Cross we will understand the cross. How does understanding the cross allow me to move beyond any mistake I have ever made?

Session 4. April 08, 2009
The cross reveals God’s unconditional love and vulnerability; as a teaching and invitation to discipleship, God suffers with us. The Cross calls us beyond ourselves, our own agenda, our own life without resentment.
